VDIK: German commercial vehicle market to grow by 8.4% to 390,000 units in 2024 (2023: 359,689), of which 300,000 under 6 tonnes (+13%, 266,589) and 90,000 over 6 tons (-3%, 92,800). New van, truck sales in Germany to fall by 5.1% to 370,000 in 2025. Manufacturers developed zero-emission electric and hydrogen trucks that can be ordered and delivered. And many customers are interested in them. Unfortunately, framework conditions for freight ZEVs currently do not meet many expectations. Although there is CO2 surcharge on truck toll, which puts zero-emission trucks in better position than those with internal combustion engines (ICEs), there is lack of planning certainty, for example when it comes to electricity prices, Labbé said. VDIK will continue to advocate for effective government support for purchase of climate-friendly commercial vehicles in future, for example by reinvesting part of revenue from truck toll in transformation of road freight transport.
